What is an LDS Publisher?
Q: Do I need an agent to publish with WiDo?
A: No, we are still small enough that we can deal directly with authors.
Q: How long before I get an answer about my submission?
A: Our turn around time on new submissions is about four-six weeks.
Q: Do you pay advances?
A: No, we do not; however, our royalty rates are quite generous at 10% of the retail price of the book, paid out twice a year. This goes up after sales of 5000.
Q: How will you market my book once it is published?
A: Each title will have its own marketing plan, depending on the demographic. Certain ones will be more widely distributed through Brigham City Distributing; others will be promoted initially to the independent bookstore. We have several other exciting and promising promotional plans in the works. Our marketing plan begins when a submission is accepted for publication. The editorial and marketing teams work together to determine the demographic of a title and the best way to reach that audience, involving the author in the process.
Q: How long does the editing process take?
A: This depends on the manuscript and the author, as some manuscripts need more editing than others and authors rewrite in different ways. Your contract will have an approximate publication time, but that is negotiable depending on the pace of editing and revisions. No manuscript will be published until it is completely and adequately edited to meet our high standards, regardless of how long it takes.
