It’s easy to see that Laura Gentile is a lover of the arts. She speaks five languages, publishes articles, poetry and short stories; sings soprano at the King’s Theatre; describes herself as a cine-bibliophile; hosts a radio show about literature, films, music and art; and has Master’s Degrees in English Literature, Film and Visual Culture.
Now, Laura’s ready to bring a full-length novel to the world.
“Literature, film, art and music are interdependent and influence each other,” Gentile says. “I counteract the drawer-policy by keeping everything I create alive in various forms and through different mediums.”
Honesty and female issues keep Laura’s pen moving. She loves reading and writing about strong women and doesn’t shy away from touching on sensitive issues. She delves into topics that interest her, no matter how uncomfortable they may be to the average reader.
“What fascinates me,” Gentile says, “is how the past dances or wrestles with the present when it comes to family, memories, belief systems, mannerisms, guilt, shame, relationships, the inheritance of trauma, individuality, depression, and women and their representations in time.”
Gentile squeezes writing into every quiet hour. When the muse hits her, she hits right back by keeping her pen on paper as long as the muse hangs around. Black PACT Coffee, the right music and the tireless voices in Laura’s head keep her inspired.
“I wrote my novel, ‘Liebmädchen,’ when the female protagonist started speaking to me during a walk,” Gentile notes. “I knew instantly that I had to listen and write down what she was revealing.”
Laura let all the characters loose, and the story basically wrote itself. There were plenty of times when she disagreed with her characters’ actions and behaviours. But her job was to keep them uncensored and authentic. She doesn’t like being censored, and she didn’t want to do that to her characters.
“I have long been told that my work is daring, yet I often have to bow to censorship and conformity,” Gentile explained. “Joan Barbara Simon Ph.D., Lisa Burke from RTL and E.L. Marker™ are the first professionals who didn’t shy away from my work and encouraged me to express myself without casting me in a deformative mould.”
When Joseph Jones at WiDo Publishing read Laura’s manuscript, he was floored. “She doesn’t follow your typical narrative rules, but her story and style are engaging and poetic. I love it!”

Laura Gentile is a pentalingual writer with a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature, Film and Visual Culture and a Master of Letters by Research in English Literature, Film and Visual Culture. The focus of Gentile’s blog, Croque-Melpomene, is female-centric poetry. Her blog is shared weekly with RTL Today which is a major European media platform. She is currently looking for an actress to recite her poems on camera.
Laura is already working on her second novel and is eager to publish her Master of Letters thesis at some point.
