WiDo Publishing™ came out with The Magic Wakes by Charity Bradford in 2013, knowing the author had at least two, possibly three sequels in the works. When submissions editor Allie Maldonado read Bradford’s new manuscript she was excited to see the continuation of this sci fi/fantasy/romance story.

“Charity found a niche market with The Magic Wakes, combining the elements of science fiction, fantasy, magic and romance in a way that readers enjoy. I was really happy to see her completing a sequel and continuing Talia’s story in this new book,” says Maldonado.

Charity Bradford encountered unexpected difficulties in writing the next book of the series. “It was the hardest thing I’ve done yet,” she admits. “Talia had been a part of my life for so long that I was scared of letting her down and not getting the next part of her story right.” Bradford wrote and published a completely unrelated book before she was ready to work with Talia’s world again. Now she is excited about the direction the story is going and has already begun drafting the third book.

Returning to a story world after taking some time off is not easy. “I needed to keep not only events of the first novel in mind, but also the major events planned for books three and four in the series. Each one needs to build on the previous one. I had to look at The Magic Wakes as the inciting incident for the series because there is so much left to tell.”

Bradford’s first novel holds a special place for her. It is the one “that saved me from depression. It is the struggle of my own heart thinly veiled in a science fantasy setting. The challenge to overcome fears, allow others into my life, feel the pain so I can enjoy the happiness and above all become more than I am.” Since finishing and submitting The Magic Wakes sequel, she is busy with other projects. Several are in the sci fi/fantasy realm and all have a touch of romance. She is currently working on a romance novella with a group of amazing authors. Our Valentine’s in Eureka Springs will be available in January 2016.

However, it’s difficult to balance writing time with the responsibilities as a mother.  “My children need me, and I need writing time to stay sane. I’ve been blessed with creative children who understand that. As they get older they are becoming my greatest support,” Bradford says.

“Charity is a hard-working and very talented author,” says Maldonado. “She is developing a following with the work she has out so far, and as she continues writing books her fan base will grow. We at WiDo look forward to publishing The Magic Wakes sequel next year. We hope there are several more to follow.”

Bradford’s greatest joy in writing is “watching an idea take shape. A first draft is so often skinny and devoid of life. Revisions help that weak baby grow stronger until it’s fully grown and full of emotions. Seeing the improvements over time make all the hard work worth it.”

Charity Bradford has been a voracious reader ever since her 5th grade teacher introduced her to the world of books with the WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS and SUMMER OF THE MONKEYS. She soon lost herself in the worlds created by Card, Bova, Asimov, Bradbury, Nagata and Niven. She lives in Northwest Arkansas with her hubby and four kids that keep her on her toes.

She has started an annual short story writing contest for high school students, no entry fee. The top 20 receive feedback on their story from the judges as well as the opportunity to work through revisions to be included in an anthology. There are cash prizes for the top three winners. The contest runs August through November, so head over to the website to read the rules and see this year’s theme. Last year’s anthology is available on Amazon, with all royalties going to fund the contest prizes.
