Bailey Pack’s debut novel features thirteen-year-old Jack and his little sister, Sam. Their father disappeared during a business trip a month ago, but otherwise, they live a predictable life with their mother in a small American town. Then, one dark summer night, Jack hears knocking at his bedroom window. When he opens the window to investigate, he is greeted by a big Something with green eyes, black, shiny scales and a nails-on-a-chalkboard screech—it’s come for his mother.
Jack’s mother, who isn’t as surprised by this turn of events as he would expect her to be, pulls a knobby stick from her bathrobe, and prepares to deal with the Something outside Jack’s window. Thus begins an adventure that thrusts Jack and Sam into a new world of dangerous creatures, a conniving wannabe king, an elf who might be a friend, and family they never knew existed.

Bailey Pack’s day job is financial advisor. His night job is husband and father. He loves being outside doing just about anything—mountain biking, hiking, pickleball, skiing. His favorite place to write is on a bench, at a park with a view and the sounds of children playing in the background. In addition to working on the follow up to his first novel, he has already begun work on another series involving a teenage girl with an awful mom and a quiet man who runs a weapons shop.
